Our Juniors program is all about fostering a love for rugby while building skills, confidence, and lifelong friendships. Catering to players from 6 years old through to 16 years old, our teams compete in the Sunshine Coast Rugby Union competition, providing opportunities to develop their game in a supportive and fun environment.
Beyond regular competition, our older juniors also have the chance to showcase their talent at 7s tournaments across Queensland, embracing the excitement and fast-paced action of the shorter format. Whether they’re just starting out or refining their skills, our Juniors program is the perfect place for young players to grow, learn, and thrive as part of the Hammers family.
Training typically takes place on a Tuesday or Thursday night, dependent on team and games are played on Saturdays for the U6 to U14 age groups and move to Friday nights from U15s. Teams are mixed in the younger age brackets until U13s when Girls move to the Rugby 7s format.
From U13, games are played according to the Laws of the Game on a full field with 15 players a side. Lineouts are contested, with lifting, and scrums are contested unless it is agreed between teams that they remain uncontested.
The U16 to U18 teams play with laws that closely mirror senior rugby as players prepare themselves to move into senior competitions. The Sunshine Coast Rugby Union Competition may implement minor law variations in consideration of player safety.
